Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Trivia Troops (the "Game") collects, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.

1. Information We Collect

When you sign in using a third-party authentication provider (Google, Facebook, or Apple), we collect certain information directly from these providers via the OAuth protocol to create and manage your account:

  • Your Name / Nickname: to identify your account and display your profile within the game.
  • Your Email Address: to manage your account, secure your login, and communicate important updates.
  • Your Profile Picture: to display your avatar within the game interface.
  • Provider-Specific Unique ID: a unique numeric or alphanumeric string provided by Google, Facebook, or Apple to securely link your social login with your Trivia Troops account.

2. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), our legal basis for collecting and using your personal data depends on the context:

  • Performance of a Contract: to create your account and operate the game, including multiplayer features and matchmaking.
  • Legitimate Interests: to analyse game performance, fix bugs, prevent abuse, and improve the player experience.
  • Consent: where you opt in to optional communications, such as event-night announcements. You can withdraw this consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in every such email, with no effect on your account or gameplay.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information exclusively to:

  • Operate, maintain, and provide the core features of Trivia Troops.
  • Enable multiplayer features, leaderboards, and matchmaking. Your display name, weekly points and head-to-head record against players you have played appear on the in-app Rankings page, and the weekly summary we post to our community Discord. The top of the weekly board also appears on our public website, trivia-troops.com, with your first name and the initial of your last name only (for example "Ana K."). You can keep your name off all three at any time with the "Hide me from Rankings" switch on your profile; your points still count for the people you played.
  • Communicate important service updates or respond to your support inquiries.
  • Analyse game performance and fix crashes.
  • Send you optional event-night announcements by email, only if you have opted in, and only until you unsubscribe.

4. Data Storage and Third-Party Services

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information with third parties. To run the game, we share data with the following trusted service providers:

  • Authentication – Google OAuth. Your sign-in is subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Trivia Troops' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
  • Authentication – Facebook Login. Your sign-in is subject to Meta's Privacy Policy.
  • Authentication – Apple Sign In. Your sign-in is subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • Database & Infrastructure – Supabase. Your account data is stored securely using industry-standard cloud infrastructure.
  • Gameplay Analytics – first-party. We operate our own analytics. We record in-game events (such as matches played, outcomes, categories chosen, and match duration) linked to your account ID so we can understand how the game is used and improve it. We do not use Mixpanel, Google Analytics, advertising pixels, or other third-party trackers, and we do not use this data to build advertising profiles.
  • Email delivery – Resend. If you opt in to event-night announcements, we use Resend (resend.com) to deliver those emails. Resend processes your email address and basic delivery metadata (such as whether a message was delivered or bounced) solely to send the emails you requested, not for your account or login emails.

International data transfers. Some of these providers (including Google, Meta, Apple, and Resend) are based outside the EEA, so your data may be transferred to and processed in countries such as the United States. Where this happens, the transfer is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

5. Cookies & Local Storage

Trivia Troops uses only essential, first-party cookies and browser storage required to run the game:

  • Authentication and session cookies (via Supabase) to keep you signed in.
  • Game reconnection cookies so you can rejoin a match if your connection drops.
  • A local preference (in your browser's local storage) remembering whether you dismissed the "install app" prompt.
  • A service-worker cache that stores game assets so the app loads faster.

We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies, analytics pixels, or cross-site trackers. Because these technologies are strictly necessary to provide the game you requested, no cookie consent banner is required. If we ever introduce non-essential tracking, we will ask for your consent first.

6. Children's Privacy

Trivia Troops is not intended for children under the age of 16 (or the minimum age required for data consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under this age. If we learn that we have collected personal data from a child under the required age, we will delete that information immediately.

7. Data Retention and Account Deletion

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the game services.

You can request the permanent deletion of your account and all associated data at any time. Upon receiving your request, we will delete your data without undue delay, and at the latest within one month.

Trivia Troops uses Facebook Login and complies with Facebook's Data Deletion Policy. If you wish to delete the activities and data associated with Trivia Troops through Facebook, you can do so by following these steps:

  1. Go to your Facebook profile's "Settings & Privacy" > "Settings".
  2. Scroll down and click on "Apps and Websites".
  3. Find "Trivia Troops" and click "Remove".

8. Your GDPR Rights

If you are a resident of the EEA, you have the following data protection rights:

  • The right to access, update, or delete the information we have on you.
  • The right of rectification (if your data is inaccurate).
  • The right to object to or restrict our processing of your data.
  • The right to data portability (to receive a copy of your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format).
  • The right to withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
  • The right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Croatia, this is the Personal Data Protection Agency (AZOP).

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the email address provided below.

9. Data Controller and Contact
